A first-generation college student, Eduardo Tinoco holds a Master of Library and Information Science Degree from San Jose State University, a Bachelor of Arts Degree, in English, from California State University, Northridge and begins his Doctorate of Education studies at the USC Rossier School of Education, with a concentration on Higher Education, during the fall of 2014.  Ed is also a 2012 participant, and graduate, of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Leadership Institute for Academic Libraries (LIAL).  He recently completed his three-year term as the Associate Dean for Public Services with the University of Southern California (USC) Libraries.

”Under Ed’s leadership, our Public Service unit has made many significant improvements in the development and delivery of library services. He led an implementation of a library wide customer service training curriculum, which this year was expanded to our student library assistants. We’ve expanded hours of operation in several libraries—a demand that has grown in recent years. We’ve reorganized to strengthen orientation and instruction activities. And our front-line service operations have received consistently—and increasingly—high marks from our community during Ed’s associate deanship,” writes USC Libraries Dean Catherine Quinlan in her announcement to the USC Libraries community, on December 19, 2013.

Prior to pursuing his education, Ed served with the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment and continues to remain active with many veterans’ groups at USC and beyond.

Ed is currently on a six-month research leave, his research focus is student veterans and service members in higher education and will be finalizing a comprehensive review of USC’s current infrastructure for providing academic support to military personnel and those eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill.  He returns to his USC Libraries Faculty responsibilities in January 2015.  In addition, in July 2014, Ed was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Paralyzed Veterans of America Research Foundation for a three-year term, ending December 2017.

Ed brings close to twenty years of experience in the academic, corporate and entertainment industry sectors to his faculty position in the USC Libraries. Arriving at USC in 2004, Ed worked as a Business Librarian serving the USC Marshall School of Business, USC Libraries and the USC Community. His previous professional experience was with Lehman Brothers, Inc., where he worked as the Los Angeles Business Librarian for four years. Before his work at Lehman Brothers, Ed spent over five years at the Motion Picture Association of America, starting in the Classification and Ratings Department and ending his tenure as the Internet Investigations Database Coordinator in the Worldwide Anti-Piracy office of the MPAA/MPA.

Most recently, Ed completed his term as a Commissioner with the Los Angeles Public Library’s Board of Library Commissioners. Appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council in 2011, Ed’s replacement was named by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2013. His current professional affiliations include the American Library Association, Association of College and Research Libraries, and California Academic Research Libraries. Ed is a life member of several veterans’ groups that include, the US Army Ranger Association (USARA), the 75th Ranger Regiment Association (75th RRA), Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

He lives in North Hollywood, California with his wife, two children, and their Golden Retriever.
