Tang publishes new article in Policy Studies Journal

This month, Professor and Bedrosian Center Research Director Shui Yan Tang coauthored a new article in the Policy Studies Journal entitled “Political Commitment, Policy Ambiguity, and Corporate Environmental Practices.”

China's Pearl River DeltaHis paper examines how regulatory factors are related to basic and proactive corporate environmental management practices in the Pearl River Delta region in China. His research found that the perception of clear political commitment to environmental protection was positively associated with business efforts to develop basic environmental practices, regardless of whether these protections are enforced. At the same time, perceptions of political ambiguity, in the form of confusing regulatory standards and enforcement was negatively associated with corporate efforts. These negative associations may be mitigated by intensive inspections, suggesting a need for improving regulatory enforcement and compliance.
