First Annual PIPE Conference

Welcome to the first annual conference of the Political Institutions & Political Economy Collaborative

March 15 – 16, 2018

The Political Institutions and Political Economy (PIPE) Collaborative at the University of Southern California is a university-wide research endeavor jointly sponsored by the Price School’s Bedrosian Center and the Office of the Provost.

The PIPE Collaborative includes faculty and graduate students with common interests in various aspects of political institutions and political economy and is designed — through regular scholarly workshops and multiple symposia each year — to encourage research that crosses disciplinary boundaries.  This cross-disciplinary collaboration is crucial, as political institutions and political economy are regularly studied topics in political science, economics, and law; thus, there are synergies to be had by insuring there are regular forums to bring together scholars from different research traditions who may not ordinarily talk to one another.

The First Annual Political Institutions and Political Economy (PIPE) Conference will bring together major U.S. scholars from political science, economics, and law for two days to cover important new research on topics such as the unilateral presidency, Congressional committees, city policies, electoral rules, political leadership, and partisanship.  In establishing this annual conference tradition, the PIPE Collaborative will provide a regular, national forum for the study of political institutions and political economy, and establish USC as an academic leader in the research area.
