Alabama places 41st in state safety rankings

Wes Mayberry of The Daily Sentinel spoke to our Faculty Affiliate, David Sloane about the importance of the relationship between police and the community.

“While we think the right policy is spending more money on police technology, research suggests that almost all neighborhoods are safer when the people who live in them get to know each other, interact with each other regularly and watch out for each other,” Sloane said. “Research also suggests that when people know police officers on an informal basis, they are more satisfied with police activities and don’t feel as alienated from them.”
