Bedrosian Center live events are postponed

Published by USC Bedrosian Center on

We understand that some of our audience finds the sheer number of cancellations and closings overkill, or overwhelming, or even frightening.

The good news is that, 80% of the cases of COVID-19 are mild. Yes, 80%. Really good news.

The reason public health experts recommend cancelling events is to slow the spread of the virus, so as not to overburden our healthcare system (like what’s been happening in Italy). It’s not about prevention but rather slowing the rate of transmission.

This gives anyone who contracts a more serious case a better chance of being able to receive the attention they need from health practitioners on the front lines. As a city, a county, a state, a nation … we’ll also have a better chance of rolling out testing to necessary rates and developing the vaccine (which can take up to 18 months for novel viruses like COVID-19).

This is good public policy. Plain and simple.

Vox shared an excellent explainer with great resources if you’re looking for more information, find it here.

In addition, the University of Southern California has been providing guidance on campus health and safety precautions related to COVID-19. Those details are available at https://sites.usc.edu/coronavirus/.

On the USC COVIID-19 site you’ll be able to track how the University is working to help slow the spread of the virus, and how this will affect students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus.
