Goals for British Government in the Digital Age

By dispensing with paper-based public services and working smarter with technology, the British government may be able to realize £70 billion in savings by 2020, according to a new report from PolicyExchange (UK).

With the U.K.’s widespread use of the Internet, especially on smartphones, many government services could be accessed online, leading to a streamlining of the process and less waste, according to Smaller, Better, Faster, Stronger report.  The authors also describe how the British government would benefit from increased use of data and analytics, working smarter with fewer staff, identifying opportunities to learn from private-sector innovation, encouraging digital skills and experience in civil service competencies, developing a process to encourage more open policymaking and collaboration, and making technology bids more competitive.
