Kevin Koy is Executive Director, Geospatial Innovation Facility, UC Berkeley – College of Natural Resources. The Cal-Adapt (http://cal-adapt.org) web application has been developed to showcase the wealth of innovative climate change research being produced by the scientific community in California. Through a combination of locally relevant information, visualization tools, and access to primary data, Cal-Adapt allows users to investigate how the climate is projected to change in their area of interest and gives them tools to plan for these changes.

This presentation will introduce the process that the team undertook to plan for and develop this site, focusing on the challenges of presenting compelling visualizations of highly temporal raster data in a webGIS environment. It will also address the challenges faced with providing access to complex data sets and information to very different users groups, varying from the general public to scientists.

In addition to describing the development process, there will be a live demonstration presenting currently available data and features available through Cal-Adapt; including temperature, snowpack, sea level rise, and fire visualization tools as well as new features and tools that are soon to be released.
