The Leading from the West speaker series, is a platform that offers insight into effective governance through conversations with leaders that have guided states, regions, and cities through often treacherous policy waters and have demonstrated administration skills, nimble politics, and inspiring leadership to garner the resources and on-going support necessary to achieve success.

The Price Athenian Society is the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy’s premier organization connecting the people, resources and opportunities that advance the mission of the School.

The Bedrosian Center and the Price Athenian Society hosted a conversation with Kevyn Orr, former emergency manager for the City of Detroit.

Orr’s handling of the Detroit bankruptcy was precedent-setting.  He successfully restructured $18 billion in debt, implemented a revitalization plan for city services and operations and avoided drastic cuts to pensions and retiree benefits.  We spoke with Kevyn Orr about the financial and governance challenges facing municipalities from Detroit to Orange County.
