Conversations about governance and policy implementation

The Bedrosian Center works to align the goals of academics and practitioners in order to foster effective governance. We strive to shape the public dialogue about governance and policy implementation in order to share good ideas, and work to make sure that government implements policy well. We believe that the knowledge of experts should be shared and that that knowledge can be used to shape and influence policy. Join us in conversation with former Los Angeles City Councilman Greig Smith. Greig Smith was a member of the Los Angeles City Council from 2003 to 2011. He represented the 12th District in the Northwestern San Fernando Valley, which included Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Northridge, and other communities.

He was elected to the L.A. City Council in 2003 defeating L.A. School Board member Julie Kornstein in the race to succeed Hal Bernson. He was one of two Republican Party members of the City Council.

As a Councilman, he made waste management his main issue and was successful in lobbying his colleagues to unanimously pass his comprehensive blueprint for the city, RENEW LA—Recovering Energy, Natural Resources, and Economic Benefit from Waste for Los Angeles.
