Lunch with a Leader provides students with the opportunity to hear ideas from local, state, and national leaders as well as share their ideas and gain inspiration for effective governance in an enjoyable, informal setting.

Steve Soboroff, Police Commissioner, LAPD

Steven Soboroff was appointed to the Board of Police Commissioners by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2013 and subsequently elected President by his fellow Police Commissioners.

Soboroff has long been known as a business leader and public servant. He sits on the Board of the Weingart Foundation and is the past Chairman and CEO of Playa Vista. He was the driving force behind bringing Staples Center to Los Angeles, Vice Chairman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a former mayoral candidate and Senior Advisor to Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
He served as president of the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Commission from 1995 to 2001, reinvigorating the city’s park system. He is also a member of the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission, President of the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission, and served as Senior Advisor to the California Science Center in its project with NASA to bring the Space Shuttle Endeavour to Los Angeles.

A member of the Price School Board of Councilors, a senior fellow and member of the Advisory Board at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs, and Board Chair of the Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University, Soberoff is also a trustee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and volunteers his time to mentor several university students annually.
He is Chairman of the Maccabiah Games “Committee of 18” and is the world’s foremost collector of typewriters that were previously owned by famous individuals.
