THE WHIPPING MAN
A play by Matthew Lopez
“…We as Americans have to take responsibility for our past, even if most of us in this country today are not decendents of slaveholders.” –– playwrite, Matthew Lopez
The Civil War has ended, leaving destruction in its wake. As a raging storm illuminates what’s left of a once majestic plantation home, three Jewish men prepare for Passover—the owner’s son and his family’s former slaves.
Join us as the Bedrosian Center leads a post-show discussion with a panel of esteemed guests to explore with the audience themes of governance in the wake of the end of the civil war.
Governance: “the establishment and implementation of policies that include the mechanisms required to balance the powers of the members with the associated accountability.”
